Structure functions and angular ordering at small x 1

چکیده
We compute the gluon distribution in deep inelastic scattering at small x by solving numerically the angular ordering evolution equation. The leading order contribution , obtained by neglecting angular ordering, satisfies the BFKL equation. Our aim is the analysis of the subleading corrections. Although not complete — the exact next-to-leading contribution is not yet available — these corrections are important since they come from the physical property of coherence of QCD radiation. In particular we discuss the subleading correction to the BFKL characteristic function and the gluon distribution's dependence on the maximum available angle. Conformal invariance of the BFKL equation is lost, however this is not enough to bring the small-x gluon distribution into the perturbative regime: although large momentum regions are enhanced by angular ordering, the small momentum regions are not fully suppressed. As a consequence, the gluon anomalous dimension is finite and tends to the BFKL value γ = 1/2 for α S → 0. The main physical differences with respect to the BFKL case are that angular ordering leads to 1) a larger gluon anomalous dimension, 2) less singular behaviour for x → 0 and 3) reduced diffusion in transverse momentum.

We recall the origin of angular ordering of soft parton emission in the region of small x and show that this coherent structure can be detected in associated distributions. For structure functions at small x and at fixed transverse momentum the angular ordering is masked because of the complete inclusive cancellations of collinear singularities for x → 0. Therefore, in this case the dependence ...

This talks examines the effect of angular ordering on the small-x evolution of the unintegrated gluon distribution, and discusses the characteristic function for the CCFM equation. For some time now it has been known that angular ordering [1] is an essential element in any description of small-x final state properties [2]. As a first step of a programme to study the final state in small-x physi...

Extended Abstract. The simplest and the most common way of comparing two random variables is through their means and variances. It may happen that in some cases the median of X is larger than that of Y, while the mean of X is smaller than the mean of Y. However, this confusion will not arise if the random variables are stochastically ordered. Similarly, the same may happen if one would like to ...

Considering the BFKL and DGLAP QCD evolution equations for structure functions, we discuss the possibility of unifying them in the whole x and Q range. We emphasize that the main problem is related to the constraint of angular ordering of the radiation, and the cancellation of the related collinear singularities for inclusive processes. At the leading log 1/x and log Q level, we write down a un...
